Vinny & Bart

Australian Ch Aprika Captain Scarlet

Shelley

Poodle

Specialising in the apricot colour, the first litter of Aprika miniature poodles was born in 1988.  Since then Aprika poodles have appeared in the show ring, agility and obedience competitions, television and photographic work, Pets as Therapy visits and live as happy, healthy family pets.

‘Vinzent aus dem Schneckenhaus at Aprika’ was imported from Germany in 1992.  Vinny proved to be an influential sire and introduced the dark apricot colour that is seen today.  Other apricot stud dogs have been imported in 2001 and 2003: both of these dogs carry the finest American and Continental bloodlines.  Vinny’s son, ‘Australian Champion Aprika Captain Scarlet’ was exported to Perth where he quickly gained his champion title and has also proved his worth as a sire.

Aprika poodles have enjoyed much success in the agility ring.  The most famous is Portia, ‘Agility Champion Harvest Geld for Aprika’ owned by Jayne Bray of the Upanova agility dogs.  Portia is undoubtedly the most successful agility dog, of any size, in modern times with 9 Agility Challenge Certificates and 5 Reserve Agility Challenge Certificates.  She has won all the major agility competitions at least once, the Eukanuba Mini Agility Finals at Crufts 3 times and has over 300 class wins to her credit.  From her litters, all sired by Aprika dogs, she has produced an International Agility Champion, an Agility Champion, several Reserve Agility Challenge Certificate winners and others qualified to run in the Champion class.
Although we no longer have any poodles, the pages and photographs remain to remind us, and others, of the special times we shared with them.
